About Newcastle Falcons

Newcastle Falcons is a prominent rugby union team that competes in Premiership Rugby, the top division of rugby union in England. The club has a rich history, tracing its origins back to 1877 when it was established as the Gosforth Football Club. Over the years, the club merged with the Northumberland Football Club and underwent various transformations until assuming the name Newcastle Falcons.

The Newcastle Falcons play their home matches at Kingston Park, located in Newcastle upon Tyne. The club has a dedicated fan base and is known by the nickname "The Falcons".

Newcastle enjoyed a bumper season in 2017-18 when they made their first-ever Premiership semi-final, finishing fourth in the regular-season standings and smashing their all-time attendance record when 30,174 supporters flocked to St James’ Park to watch a 25-22 victory over Northampton Saints.

Relegation followed the season after despite high points including a pair of memorable Champions Cup victories away to Toulon and at home against Montpellier, but once again the Falcons bounced back to the top flight at the first attempt despite their Championship season being cut short due to the Covid pandemic.

Achievements

The Newcastle Falcons have had notable successes throughout their history. They won the Premiership title for the first time in their history in the 1997-1998 season. They also reached the final of the European Challenge Cup in 2004 and went on to win the competition in 2008 and 2014.

Community Engagement

The Newcastle Falcons are actively involved in community engagement programs. They work with local schools and clubs to promote grassroots rugby and offer coaching clinics for aspiring young players. The club also supports various charitable initiatives and fundraising events.

Kingston Park

The Falcons' home stadium, Kingston Park, has a seating capacity of around 10,200 spectators. Apart from hosting rugby matches, the stadium also includes training facilities, a clubhouse, and conference rooms. It is a vibrant venue on match days, generating a lively atmosphere.

Development Pathway

The club places a strong emphasis on developing young talent. They have an academy system in place to identify and nurture promising players. Many players have progressed through the Falcons' academy and gone on to represent not only the club but also international teams.

Rivalries

The Newcastle Falcons have historic rivalries with other English rugby clubs, often leading to competitive and exciting matches. One of their notable rivalries is with the North East rivals, the Sale Sharks. Matches between these two teams are always fiercely contested.
